Oregon Grape Cocktail Recipe

Updated: Sep 5, 2023

Oregon grape, with its tangy and bitter flavor, can be used to create unique and flavorful alcoholic drinks.

Here's a recipe for an Oregon Grape Cocktail:

Oregon Grape Cocktail: Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces gin

  • 1/2 ounce Oregon grape syrup (see recipe below)

  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

  • Club soda or sparkling water

  • Ice cubes

  • Lemon twist for garnish

Oregon Grape Syrup:

  • Fresh or dried Oregon grape root

  • Water

  • Sugar (1:1 ratio of water to sugar)

Instructions: Prepare Oregon Grape Syrup:

  1. In a pot, combine an equal amount of water and sugar (e.g., 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar).

  2. Add the fresh or dried Oregon grape root to the pot.

  3. Simmer the mixture over low heat for about 20-30 minutes to infuse the flavor.

  4. Remove the pot from the heat and strain out the Oregon grape root, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.

  5. Allow the syrup to cool before transferring it to a glass bottle or jar.

Mix the Oregon Grape Cocktail:

  1. In a shaker, combine the gin, Oregon grape syrup, and fresh lemon juice.

  2. Add ice cubes to the shaker and shake well to chill the cocktail.

  3. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice cubes.

  4. Top the cocktail with club soda or sparkling water to your desired level of fizziness.

  5. Gently stir the cocktail to combine the flavors.

  6. Garnish the cocktail with a twist of lemon peel.

  7. Enjoy Responsibly:

    • Sip and savor your Oregon Grape Cocktail responsibly.

Note: Oregon grape root has a strong and bitter taste, so the Oregon grape syrup may also have a bitter flavor. Adjust the sweetness of the syrup to your taste preferences. As always, remember to drink responsibly and adhere to legal drinking age requirements in your area.
